Correction with resins and brackets

Orthonyxia is a corrective and conservative podiatric treatment that uses special resins and/or nail brackets to progressively modify the curvature of the nail. Its goal is to eliminate the cause of ingrown toenails (onychocryptosis) without resorting to surgical procedures.

What exactly is orthonyxia?

It is a technique based on biomechanical principles:

  • A controlled tension system is applied to the nail.
  • This system raises the side edges
  • Excessive curvature is corrected gradually

📌 It is comparable to a “dental brace”, but applied to the nail.

✂️ Types of systems used

  1. Brackets ungueales

  • Small devices attached to the nail
  • They generate a traction force that opens the curve
  • They are adjusted periodically

2. Orthonyxia with resin

  • Application of special podiatric resins
  • They strengthen and redirect nail growth
  • More aesthetic and discreet

3. Combined systems

  • Use of bracket resin
  • Greater control in complex or recurring cases

Why is it a "cure" option?

Orthonyxia doesn't just relieve pain… it corrects the cause:

  • An ingrown toenail occurs due to excessive curvature or incorrect growth direction.
  • Orthonyxia re-educates nail growth
  • Over time, the nail grows correctly

📌 Unlike simply cutting or removing the spike, here the root of the problem is addressed.

Clinical benefits

  • ✔️ Non-invasive treatment
  • ✔️ No surgery or disability.
  • ✔️ Reduces pain from the first applications
  • ✔️ Prevents recurrence
  • ✔️ Aesthetically discreet
  • ✔️ Compatible with daily life (walking, working)

In what cases is it indicated?

  • Mild to moderate onychocryptosis
  • Nails with excessive curvature
  • Patients with frequent recurrences
  • Cases where surgery is to be avoided

When is it NOT the only option?

  • Active severe infection
  • Advanced granulomas
  • Extreme deformations

📌 In these cases, it is combined or prior management is performed.

Treatment process

  1. Clinical assessment
  2. Nail cleaning and preparation
  3. System placement (bracket or resin)
  4. Periodic adjustments
  5. Follow-up until full correction

⏳ Treatment duration

  • It depends on the growth of the nail
  • Usually several months
  • Periodic reviews are required
